Discipleship

Jesus said to "Go ... and make disciples of all the nations..." (Matthew 28:19). Our greatest purpose is that of serving Him, and our greatest task is making disciples. Everything we endeavor to do for Jesus comes down to this one thing...making disciples.

Our desire at Calvary Chapel North Phoenix is therefore to "equip saints for the work of ministry" (Eph. 4:12). We want to give the tools and training for every believer to fulfill His great commission of discipling others.

Jesus gave us a great pattern to follow with His own disciples. First, He taught them Biblical truths & doctrine; thus, it is essential that we pass on to others Biblical knowledge of God and His Word. Then, He built relationships with those 12 men showing them the heart of the Father and His love for others (Mark 3:14). They followed His heart and example. So also, we endeavor to build relationships and share the reality of Jesus in our lives with those we disciple.

Lastly, He included them in the ministry before He sent them out to do it by themselves (with the Holy Spirit of course) (John 6:1-14; Matt. 10). It was "on-the-job" training. Our discipleship course is designed so that those being discipled come alongside a mature believer to do ministry together. The goal is to eventually release someone being discipled to "Go and make disciples" (Matt. 28:19) as they have learned.
