I know what you’re thinking looking at this title. You’re flashing back to the 80’s when Expose sang “Seasons Change” (if not go to Youtube and relive some of it! Oh how times have changed!)
But in reality, seasons do change. Not just physically, but in every way. Life is not meant to be the same. God designed it that way to keep us looking to Him, trusting in Him, leaning on Him. Every season has it’s challenges. As Fall comes we watch the season change. Leaves start falling off trees….the heat in Phoenix is starting to subside (evenings are getting nice)…Kids are back in school (you made it through summer! Buy yourself a coffee or something!)….…and football season is in full swing! Yes, in our home we have had many years of not just watching football, but practicing it 2 days a week and playing on Saturdays. Some of those Saturday games would be up to 6 hour adventures! And this would go on for 10 months of the year (it's a long season). BUT…my son wanted to take a break this fall and just relax. I couldn’t agree more. Things slowed down. It’s a new season. I’m finding myself refreshed by the Spirit, enjoying some slower afternoons, getting caught up with friends, and even doing some new things. How about you? What season are you in? The Bible says of the godly person, “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3) The goal in each season is simply to enjoy the LORD in it and be used by God through it. If it’s “Fall” where things are dropping off & getting slower, then enjoy His presence in the quietness. Look to make some new friends or reconnect with some old ones to share the love & life of Jesus with. If it’s “Winter” where you are seeing no fruit and just sticks, let your roots go deep into His Word and in time you’ll see new life appear. If it’s “Spring” or “Summer” where things are busy and “springing into action” and "the heat is on” (another 80’s song for you)… then involve Him in your processing, your planning, your shopping, your goings, etc. But be careful of the “barrenness of busyness”. (where you get so busy you’re not producing lasting fruit and just wearing yourself out.) Keep priorities 1st. Life is found in relationship with God. And while you’re at it…put on the 80’s music and enjoy the memories! Blessings, Pastor Jesse Claycamp
